In this chapter, we learn that the rescue team has been practicing rescue techniques in preparation for the day's call. When the kids ask if they can play outside, the team says no. Instead, they're going to have a tour of their building. When they get back to the house, the kids are invited to have dinner with the team. The girls are all excited about the tour, and the fire safety month is in full swing. The fire team asks the girls to carry a tray of ash with them when they smoke, so that the fire won't get out of hand. They also ask the girls not to tease the adults around them, so they don't make them feel bad. They're not adults, the fire team says, and they shouldn't act like adults to the kids. They remind the girls that it's their job to keep the fire safe, and that they should be careful not to get caught in a fire. The kids are like, "oh, yeah, that's a good idea." The fire captain chimes in, "who the heck are you?" and the girls run off to smoke.
