About This Chapter
The group is about to leave for the festival when the lights go out and the crowd starts to disperse. The group asks the fire chief about his school, and he tells them that it's a good thing that they're doing the festival, because they usually do it for the junior firefighters. The fire chief says that he's glad that the kid is so cool, because he can't really get excited like a kid. He says that they usually make their junior firefighters do the festival thing, and that's when the crowd disperses. He asks if the other firemen are there, and they say that they are, and then he asks if they are wearing the head bands that are part of the festival costume. He wonders if they need to do it too, and wonders what the kid thinks of it. He's happy to see that they don't have to wear their shirts, but he wonders if the kid just avoided his eyes. He looks at his nose, which is bleeding, and asks if he should stop looking at him like that. He feels like he hasn't talked to the kid in a long time, and now he feels like they haven't had a conversation in a while. He doesn't want to look like that, so he says that his nose is bleeding and should stop pressing on it until it stops. He sighs a little bit, and thinks about how much he has changed since he left the school.
