In this chapter, Shmoop introduces us to the protagonist of the story, Shreiber, who is now called "Seiryo" . He is a young man who has just turned 18. He has just returned from his first year of college, and he is eager to begin his second year at the university. He wants to play for his school's basketball team, but he is afraid that his coach, Mitsuki, will not allow him to do so. He asks Mitsuki if she is listening to him, and she tells him that she is. Shmear says that he does not know why Mitsuki is avoiding him, but Shmears replies that he already knew that Mitsuki was watching him closely.
