The narrator tells us that he's going to make friends with the other students at the school. He's not going to hang out with them all the time, though, because he wants to make sure that he doesn't get in trouble for being a good person. He wants to be the best person he can be, even if it means that he has to be a jerk to everyone around him. The narrator says he'll do his best to be nice to everyone, even to the girl who just moved into her new neighborhood. He also wants to show her that she's made a good friend, and he hopes she'll be able to show it to him.
