About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's been living in America for a while, and that he hasn't seen his sister in a while. He's now back in Japan, and he wants to see her. He wants to show her how to clean up the outside of her house. He tells her that he has a guest coming over, and she should be ready to go. She's nine years old, and the narrator thinks that she reminds him of someone. The narrator says that she's glad to see him, because he reminds her of someone else. He says that he can teach the kid how to play the game of basketball, and they'll go out to play together. He apologizes for being such a bad influence on him, and says he'd like to see Mishima again. Mishima assumed that he was a girl, and looked up to him because she thought he was strong. He doesn't have a court to practice on, so he'll just go back and forth between the two of them. He also says that Mishima was already in love with someone when they were little, and now he hates his guts. He asks the narrator to take him to a basketball court, where he can practice some independent play. The girl Mishima wanted to see, he says, was already with another man, and Mishima hated him for it. The story of Mishima and the story of the boy Mishima is so important to the narrator that he still wants to be friends with Mishima.
