About This Chapter
The monster tells the reader that he's not going to be hurt. He's just trying to help his master, who's been locked up in a lab. The monster says that he wants to know what the heck is going on with the girl, and that he can't figure out how to help her. He also says that the girl's potential isn't measured by what she's become, but by who she is. He says that if he could help her, he'd give her what she wants, and she'd be free to do whatever she wants with her life. He doesn't want her to be like a wolf, he says, because that's what hunger is all about. He tells his master that he could end his hunger, but that would mean separating himself from the goddess, and returning the power to him. He adds that the goddess's power is the same power that he used to have, and he knows it, because the empress made it clear that she was never going to let it control her. The master says that, if they want to leave, they should get there as soon as possible. He asks if the girl has seen her father, and the master says he'll be safe if they wish to leave. The only problem is that the man is processing the vampire's blood as a source of power. He wants to kill the man, but he also wants to protect the girl. The man says that they'll have to feed the girl when the fight's over, since the vampire will have to eat after the fight is over.
