About This Chapter
In this short chapter, the cat tells his mother that he has found the answers to her questions about her son's death. He tells her that even though he is dead, there is a part of him that still believes that he will find her. He says that he is sick to death to be threatened by the mongrrel tiger. He reminds her that she has forgotten all about her brothers and sisters. She tells him to leave her alone. He asks her to remember when he was small and how he wanted to have the goddess marks on his teeth. She replies that it was better to hide her teeth than to fight to stop crying. She reminds him that the sea teaches that there is consequences to everything. She says that she wanted them both to hear the sailing for they were it first the island of course they were figured that was the place of the compass pointing. She adds that the new ones they picked up at the port who may have broken when they heard where they were headed. She warns them not to be so gloomy and to stop playing. She asks them to imagine what they might lose if they did not go by themselves. They agree that they will take the mask they wake up from. She then asks them if they would like to take control of the ship. They answer that they do not. They wonder if they will be able to control their hunger. They also wonder if their goddess can still be alive. They ask her to get them something to eat.
