The chapter opens with a soliloquy by the half-wolf, in which he laments the fact that his mask is no longer there. He tells his mother that the new Prime Minister requires his constant guidance. He also tells her that his daughter's death was a "lie" and that she should have killed thousands of girls to keep the girl safe. The halfwolf then goes on to say that the city of Zamora will soon be part of a pact between the arcanis and cumaea and that the cumanis will not be able to acquire the mask. He says that he can feel the "fragment of the mask" on destria's body and that he will tear his mother's fucking business out of her. He then tells her to show her mother that she is a "fucker" or he will "tear you the fucking out of me" . They return to camp, and the men tell them that they have found a girl with only one arm and that they were traveling with her. They need to return to the camp, he says, because they are too close to a wall. He asks his mother to remember his name before she forgets him. She tells him that he must never forget his name, but he says he is scared of himself, too, and other people he does not remember.
