The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Lorenzo in which he apologizes to Lorenzo for the kidnapping of his daughter. Lorenzo tells Lorenzo that his daughter is nineteen years old and that he is not a war leader. Lorenzo says that Lorenzo's family has always been prosperous, and that Lorenzo should not be worried about his daughter's blood. Lorenzo asks Lorenzo why the army is trying to accomplish so little, and Lorenzo replies that he and Lorenzo are marked as true descendants of the ancestors who conquered the city. Lorenzo wonders if anyone truly wants to rule by these "crepusculars" and if Lorenzo wants to be the self-appointed emperor. Lorenzo responds that he already is in charge and that it will take time for others to understand the truth
