Back at the abandoned house, the father and son discuss the cryptic letters they've found on the wall and decide to go to the house of the jiuniangs to find out what's going on. The father is worried that his son is going to believe the rumors about the family, so he suggests that they stay the night at the house and talk about the matter the next morning. He's also worried that jiu-niang might be involved in the whole thing, since he's known the family for so long. He tells his son to go sleep next to the other room so that they won't have to share the same bed anymore. He also tells his sons that they're too big for two people to sleep in the same room, so they'll have to hide in another room. He warns them to get ready to go, since it's getting late and they might be caught if they don't hurry up.
