In this chapter, we find out that the kids are not the bad guys after all. They're the ones who've done the right thing. The kids are starving, so they ask their uncle to come get them some food. The uncle doesn't want to go, so the kids slap him and slap him again until he finally gives up. He's got a torch, and it's the holy torch token that the Archbishop of Persia has granted to the pope and his family. The torch token was forged with unique colors, textures, and paints, making it impossible to counterfeit. The kid is so excited that he swallows the whole thing, but he's not satisfied. He wants more, so he asks the guardian if he saw the monster. The guardian calms him down, and the kid says that he saw it because he fainted when he was running away from the beast. He was so upset that he didn't stop the beast until he was dead. He can't believe that the guardian is the only one who's been sent by manichaeism to investigate this.
