About This Chapter
The old man asks if he is really a "worldly expert," and if he even knows how to use the blade. He says that his master hates him, and that it is for his own good that he treats him that way. He tells the old man that if he wants to learn the sword, he must first understand the blade's moves. The sword moves are stabbing and picking; the blade moves are mostly chopping and splitting. The blade is different than the sword because the sword is mostly picking and stabbing. The man says that if the man wants to win the tournament, he needs to practice the blade work within the seven-day period. If he does not, he will not be able to teach him how to correct a shortcoming. He asks to be excused from the tournament because he is old and needs to admit defeat. He then asks if there is a peace between the taoists and the yumings, and he says that there is. He also says that taoism is not only for the mind, but also for the heart.
