About This Chapter
The Governess and the Governess's daughter, Elmire, are on their way back to the house. Elmire asks Elmire if she can help her put the cane up in the garden, and Elmire tells her that there are ten men who have been trying to get in and out of the house, and that Elmire is the only one who has managed to stay in. She tells Elmire that she can decorate the garden before lunch, and she asks her to bring more flowers, as she will think of her every moment they are apart. Elmirante, a castrato, enters the room, but Elmire says that he is too scared to scare her. She asks him where he is wearing the dress she gave him, and he says that she cannot go back to her father's house because it disturbs her nap. He says that if she wants to stay, he will let her stay in the house for a week, but he will not let her sleep in the library, which is where she is supposed to sleep
