The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Hiroshi. Hiroshi tells the audience that he has decided to open a chain restaurant and a cafe on his property. He wants to use it as a place for people to come and have a drink. He also wants to save his bar. He tells Hiroshi that he would like Hiroshi to leave his family out of the business. He says that he cannot understand why Hiroshi insists on staying in the "dump" with his "useless son" . He asks Hiroshi if he can find other jobs that pay well enough to support himself and his family. He replies that he does not think that is a good idea, and Hiroshi thanks him very much for his kind words. He adds that he will explain the matter to the other employees at his sister location.
