The narrator is in a hotel with his boss. He's not sure what time it is, but he's sure that it's late. The narrator tells us that he has been sobered up and that his boss has been very angry with him. He asks why his boss is so angry, and the narrator tells him that he is drunk. He also tells the narrator that he'd like to read more books about design, since his boss seems to be interested in it. He then tells us about his ex-girlfriend, whom he used to have a crush on, and how happy she was when she found out that he was going to be a father. He says that he doesn't understand why he still has the picture of her, though, and that he wishes he had a girlfriend. He goes on to say that he hasn't had time in a long time to get one, because he has a baby to take care of, and he has to go back to work.
