About This Chapter
The Governess returns to the classroom and finds that the other students have disappeared without a word. She asks the boy to take off his backpack and relax, but the boy refuses, saying that he is going to fall and give her his hands. He is so upset that he sneezes all over the place, and the Governess curses the cat and the puppy. The two return to their classrooms and find that the others have disappeared. The boy explains that he came back because he was lonely without her. He tells her that he smelled some alcohol in the room, and that he had promised to not drink that week. He says that when he thought about her disappointed face, he was too scared. He apologizes for his behavior and says that he will not get angry again.
