In this chapter, we learn that Yulan's mother has sent an urgent message to her sister, asking her to find someone to take care of Yulan while she is away on business in the U.S. Yulan is shocked to learn that his sister has not replied to the first message she sent him. He is also surprised to find out that she has not responded to the second one. He feels that she is looking for someone, but he does not know whether she is searching for him or someone else. He rushes to the train station to pick up Yulan and show him the sights. He tells Yulan that it would be a waste to not use the trip to see the sights, but Yulan does not want to waste money on a trip he will not use.
