In this chapter, the narrator explains that he and Julian are going to spend the weekend together. He tells Julian that he doesn't want him to come on their first date, but that it was "unavoidable" and that they should watch a movie together. Julian says that he's not interested in "noir" in general, but he does want to be next to Julian, so he stops thinking about what he'll do next. He says that it's easier to deal with "that small bean" than with a "lover" , and he promises to take good care of Julian. The narrator leaves to prepare a meal for the family. He asks Julian if he'd like to play with him and his friends, and Julian says yes, and they'll just leave.
