This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which Caius tells his servant, Miss Jessel, that the young lord gave him the potion. Miss Jessell is upset that Caius has given her the potion, and she begs Caius not to force it on her. She also tells him that she cannot remember the details of the potion because of a concussion she has had in the past. When Caius asks her what has happened, she says that she has forgotten something important, and that she will get tea from him. She tells him to leave her alone, and he does so. He tells her that he has been summoned by the imperial court to discuss some important matter.
