Now that he's found the pearl, the demon is ready to go back to his old life. He tells the demon that he can no longer depend on the mermaid. He's already carried a child on his back when he was a small child, and now he can do the same with the pearl. He explains that he almost thought that the boy was dead, but then he realized that he was alive.
