This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. The flashback shows that the demon has been looking for Lingzi since they parted ways. He tells Lingzi that he has been searching for her ever since. Lingzi tells him to be careful because the demon is always keeping her on a leash. He then tells her that she is burning and that she should rest first. She tells him that she has lost the bait and the fish that she had caught in the river. She then tells him where she is and that it will be a "clean slate" between them. He is horrified and tells her to come out and tell him where he is. He goes on to say that he will be chasing her like a "hunter after a hare" and that the truth is that Lingzi has lost her house and all of her medicine.
