In this chapter, we learn that Hamish must keep a journal of all the decisions he makes as commander of the ship. Hamish's first order of business is to go to the meeting point and find out what's going on. He's got a visitor with him, and the other members of the alpha team are exploring the meeting place. The guy doesn't follow Hamish, and Hamish can't figure out what to do. He picks up a signal from the other guys' signals, and finds out that the guy is stuffing pieces of wood into his mouth. He looks at Hamish as if he's pleading for help, and then he pulls the trigger. The hole in the sky is 150 meters above Hamish. The humidity levels and the air composition in the room are clear, Hamish says. He wants to know what happened to the guy on his heels in the meeting room, and if Hamish is the sole survivor. The only thing Hamish knows is that there's no sign of upacesky, and that's what Hamish should be worried about.
