About This Chapter
Back on the ship, Lockwood tries to talk to Collins, but he can't find him. Lockwood tells him that the ship is back up and running, and that he's the one who's been trying to figure out how to fix the problem. Lockwood asks if he could run a self-diagnostic, and Collins says that's a good idea, since the ship seems to be running on its own. Lockwood says he'll try to find out what's wrong with the ship once he gets back to the pool, and then he can call on Collins again. Lockwood thinks the ship has changed hands, and now someone else's running it. Lockwood warns that Lockwood is a madman, and says that the Navy is at a madman's mercy, since they're at the mercy of a madman. Lockwood then tells the men that they've all come to take their break, and he wants to toast the hope that they have rekindled the Navy's future. The Navy is a democracy, he says, and they staged a coup just because they were the majority. Lockwood wants to know why the temperature is so cold, and Lockwood says that it's because the Navy doesn't want to lower the temperature too much. He says that if they don't give him what he wants, he can either "cave in" or "clop in" .
