About This Chapter
The first sign that something is wrong is the sound of a ship coming towards them. It's a ship called "taxi 2," which has been submerged for thousands of years. The ship's crew is confused by the noise, and the captain tells the lieutenant to turn around and go back to the ship. The captain asks the lieutenant if he's familiar with a picture of a woman on a beach in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The woman is Karin Svard, and she's holding her children in her arms. Karin's children were swept away by the waves during the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, and her family survived. The lieutenant tells the captain to follow him to his isolation cell, and he promises to send Hamish a report later that day. Hamish says that everything seems to be running smoothly, and that he'll send a mediator to come and record Hamish's version of events. He'll also send the lieutenant the tracks of his son's ship, which Hamish has been analyzing. The father tells Hamish that his son was sick with fear, begging him to listen to what he was saying, but Hamish won't listen. The next day, Hamish left on an assault mission, and Hamish came back as a vegetable.
