About This Chapter
In this chapter, we're introduced to a new character named "Underwood" . He's a soldier, and he's trying to find his way out of the labyrinth. He tries to talk to the other soldier, "dickhead" , but he can't get the two of them to move. They're so far away that they're not even sure where they are. They decide to test out a new method of getting out of a maze: "hand on the wall." This is a fancy way of saying that you remember which path you took before, and then you take another path that way. In other words, if you took the first path, you can always take the second path. This is the only way to escape a maze, and it's the only one that works in all kinds of mazes. Underwood is psyched to be able to help his friend, "the soldier," out of this one. He wants to know how the two guys managed to get so far apart. He asks if they've copied each other's maps, and they both agree that they can use their own devices to figure out the way out.
