This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the "ideal type" . He tells us that his ideal type is dying, and that he wants to break off his relationship with her. He begs her to make things clear, but she can't understand what he's saying. She tells him that she has nothing to say, and she's about to fall to her death. She thanks him for saving her money when she was in need of it, and he tells her that he'll beat her to death if she ever appears in front of him again. He says that he has a long life ahead of him, and the heavens will take care of him.
