In Florence in the fifteenth century, Amedeo and his family are ordered to leave the town because it is unsafe for them to live there. They protest that they are god's people and should be kicked out of town. They are interrupted by the arrival of Governor Ambrofi, the Knight Commander of Florence. Ambrofi tells his father that he is going to kill the man who has fallen from the sky. He then goes on to explain that he himself is the governor of Florence and that he has the right to take over as the baron of the town. He is also the superintendent of the diocese of Florence, which means that he can take over the town as well. He says that he will go back and ask for reinforcements. The clock has been destroyed, meaning that the future will no longer exist, but will return to the past
