In this chapter, we learn that M. S. and his sister, M. Y., have been living together in the forest for many years. They were rock climbing together when they came across a huge meteorite. Everything around them was engulfed in flames, and many of M.'s team members disappeared in the fire. After the meteorite melted away, the forest became lush again, and M. was able to find the directional markings on the forest floor that he had made in the past. He explains that the forest has remained the same for the past 20 years, but that some people have come and gone, and that no one has ever left. M. says that there will be a bonfire party for the newcomers tonight, and he will go with M. to find out if they can help.
