The two men make their way to the monster's lair, but the monster is already there. The men wonder why the monster turned a blind eye to the two men running away. The monster seems to be looking for information in the orphanage directory. If they can't get it out of here, then it's just "a wad of waste paper to us" . They're here, and the monster wants to know where they're going. He tells them that if he catches them, they'll all have to live with him forever. He's looking forward to the day when he'll be able to turn the children into monsters. He asks the men what they'd do if they ran into a friend who was holding them back. He says he'd stay away from them, and if they could help him, it was what it was. He doesn't allow the friend to be in his list of friends.
