About This Chapter
The narrator sighs and wonders what he should do. He's worried that he's going to see wang-cai soon, and that he fainted after kissing him. He doesn't know how to explain it, but he'll think it over after he gets back to his room. The narrator tells us that he merely kissed him, and when he saw him, he "just reflexively" kissed him. It's weird, he says, because "ordinary people" don't "hide under the blanket" when they feel shy. He says that he knows that he wouldn't move at all if he were kissing someone, and he'd be fine with that. He asks his brother to keep his cool, but the narrator wants to know what he wants. He knows that you said that you didn't like him, but that's not the reason why he feels so confused. The reason, the narrator says, is that he had planned to give up his feelings for you, but when he heard you say that, he decided to give it back. But just as he was about to do so, he hears that you've already kissed, and it means that they've been married for 80 years. He feels like he is going to die, but then he sees that she's laughing so happily, too immersed in her beauty, that she missed his confession. He thinks about it, and decides to wait for wang
