In this chapter, we learn that the protagonist is named Dongfang, and he is a thirty-year-old man who has just returned from a summer vacation. He tells us that he still wants to be a better person, even though he's only 30 years old. He wants to become a family man, so he decides to show off his carpentry skills to his friend, yong yong. yong doesn't believe him, and so he ends up hurting lao lun. . He apologizes to lao lu for hurting him, but he still thinks that he hasn't changed. He blames yong's washing machine for the whole mess. He says that yong will be happy to see him become a good person, and that he'll be touched by it. He'll even be able to forgive his old friend, who's been by his side for so long. But, he says, he still has a lot of work to do. He asks lao to tell him where he bought the doll, but she won't tell him, because it's a gift from her. He promises to get her an identical doll, and she'll have to admit that she bought it for herself. She's going to have to take out her fighting spirit, and admit that at least she's not going to kill him. He also says that he thinks that lao is going to make up to him by giving him the doll as a gift, but that's too much for him to bear. He hopes that the old friend will forgive him and at least he can be a kind person
