In this short scene, we are introduced to two members of the Shanghai Youth Theater Club, who are on their way to watch the performance of "Jie Ren Yi" . We are told that the two men, known only as "chang le" and "tan xiao," have stolen all of the props and costumes belonging to the troupe, and that they are hurrying to the police station to report the theft. The two men explain that they have come to the club to "pull these western tricks" , but they have also come to "fix up" the performance room of the club so that it will not be able to continue.
