In this chapter, Cai tells the story of how he and his family were betrayed by the Ming family, and how his brother became a spy for the Mings. He tells the audience that he feels relieved when he meets his daughter, but that there are still secrets between him and the princess, and that she should not have to carry the burden of his betrayal because of him. He asks to be allowed to go early to the palace to see for himself what is going on.
