In this chapter, we learn that the young man who used to be Miss Jessel's slave is now serving as the fifth prince's spy. The young man tells the girl that he was once the mistress of the slave and that he will always be her mistress and owner. The girl tells him that she has never treated him like a child and that she will always protect him. The prince asks for an audience, and the girl says that the prince is trying to disrupt their wedding reception. She tells the prince that he has a rebel spy with him, and she asks the prince to take the spy away so that she can see what the prince wants to see. She says that they are leaving the city, and that the slave will be able to go on their way once they are outside the city. The slave has been "cleaned of blood" and "changed into new clothes" , and they will be free to travel once they leave the city
