In this chapter, we learn that Krook and his mother were rescued from the streets by Krook's father, who took them in and saved them from starvation and homelessness. Krook tells his father that he has the talent to become a great martial artist, but his mother needs to find a place to live. He tells Krook that his son is ill and needs a good whipping to learn his place in the world.
