In this chapter, the narrator tries to remember why he did what he did on the day of the festival. He remembers that he went to a friend's house and that everyone there seemed to be having a good time. He also remembers that when he left the house, he heard someone tapping on the door. He asks the girl why she did what she did, and she tells him that she did it because she was having a bad day. She also tells the narrator that she had told him that if he could live without regrets, he would be able to live a happy life. The narrator wonders if he can really say that this way of living is without regrets. He wonders how long it will take him to find the woman he was looking for.
