He's worried that they're going to attack him and his family, so he's decided to stay and help them. He tells the monster that he saw a bump on his head and that he can see a manhole right there. The monster says that the bump isn't bleeding, but he can't figure out what it is. He says he has already lost his sense of pain and is now living a life beyond his physical limits. He asks the monster why he came here, and the monster replies that he came because he ignored his warnings.
