In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, a young man named Chihiro. Chihiro is a student at a high school in the town of Nemo, Japan, and he has just returned from a trip to the city of Nagasaki, where he has been sent by his father, Hiroyuki, to find a cure for the disease that has ravaged his body. When he arrives at Nemo's house, he finds Hiroyuki's body lying on the floor, covered in a pool of blood. He asks Hiroyuki to help him cure the disease, but Hiroyuki refuses, saying that he is too weak to do so. When Hiroyuki asks what he should do, Chihiro replies that he should tell his father what he would like to be done. He tells his father that he wants to leave Nemo to cure himself, but that he would rather stay in Nemo than leave the town to cure him. When his father asks him what he wants, he tells him that Hiroyuki is already a student in high school, and that he wishes that he could be a part of the solution to the disease. He then asks his father to forgive him when the time comes for him to die, and Hiroyuki says that he does not want to be forgiven in his father's heart. When they meet again, however, they decide that their confrontation with Hiroyuki has been put on hold.
