This chapter opens with Ming-ling's mother scolding her daughter-in- law, Ming-liu, for illegally entering the forbidden territory of the Dragon Forest. She accuses her of causing her son's injury, and she blames her for ruining the lives of her three sons and her daughter. She also blames Ming for setting down the "prohibition" with her brother, and for ruining her daughter's relationship with Ming. She tells Ming to take a good look at her son, who has been badly injured, and to bring in all of the necessary equipment to treat him.
