The narrator begins this chapter by bemoaning the fact that he has spent too much money on goods and services. He feels like he has run out of things to buy. He decides to save up some money so that he will be able to buy a nice dinner for himself and his friends. He tells his friends that he is going to treat them to a nice meal. He also tells them that his father has always taught him not to spend money on things that he does not need. The narrator then turns his attention to the topic of dragons. He wonders if they exist and wonders if humans really are the only living beings on the face of the earth. He compares the appearance of dragons to that of a vicious unicorn, a long-bearded carp, and five-shrimp chicken claws.
