This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the narrator, in which he explains that he is addicted to the sound of music. He says that he has been sleeping on him all the way to school, and that this is the first time he has felt free. He tells us that the music is so good that he can hardly believe that it is possible for him to be so addicted. He also says that the other students are also addicted to music, but that they are not as good at it as he is.
