In this chapter, we are introduced to the young protagonist, who is named eric. We learn that he was born with a rare disease, pediatric lyme, and that he has been living with it ever since. When he was a young child, his parents came to take him home from the hospital. When they arrived at the hospital, they were surrounded by a crowd of people, and one of the doctors bit eric on the arm. When eric woke up, he found his parents dead in the street.
