The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which Zbigniew complains that no one has come to save the people of Kortrijk yet. He's sick of the same food, and he wants to get out of the place. He asks where he's been, and the boss says he'll let him out. The boss tells him that there's no safe place left, and that the army will take care of him. He tells the crowd to be patient, because the killers won't be able to open the doors. Everyone runs to the door and stabs the guy who's trying to get in.
