About This Chapter
"Our June" is a happy birthday present for the little girl, and the narrator tells her that she will grow up healthy and happy. The narrator tells the girl that her parents will buy her anything she wants. The little girl says that she misses her family, especially her father, who is away at war. She tells the narrator that her father has come to see her, and that he is waiting for her downstairs. She says that her face is burning with memories of the night before, and she needs time to make arrangements for her family. She asks her grandmother how her brother is doing, and her grandmother says that he has calmed down a bit, but that she thinks everything will be okay. She invites the narrator to come and see her brother, who has been away from home for a while. He says that eighteen years ago, he was injured in a car accident, and his brain has been affected by it, so he does not remember his sister anymore. He asks her why she is so close to his ear. She replies that she is his sister, in law, and they will come and visit him more often.
