The chapter opens with a flashback to a time when a large listed company was in the process of going public. Alint's grandfather had a heart attack, and everything suddenly died. The narrator tells us that this was because his mother was tailgating her brother and sister in a law car, and she was too close to the car to stop. He tells her to run away from the car, but she won't let him, because she's still protecting him. She tells him that she has a clue: she has found a white porcelain vase that her mother left for her.
