The story opens with a message from the great ruler of Kotla, Ayodya, to a group of yaksha hunter men. He tells them that Kotla is safe from attack and thanks them for their loyalty. The men accept the message and leave. Kotla's father informs them that three months have passed since the last attack. He asks them if they would continue to receive tribute from their districts if they were defeated. The father replies that he does not believe time is near, but that he has been waiting for him. He says that he sent a team of hunter men to the region of Jagna to ask for help, but they have not returned. He sends a team with miswami to clear the region.
