The scene opens with Hiroshi and his mother-in-law visiting a hot spring. Hiroshi tells them that he's been working all day to prepare a curry for Mika. He's bummed that he didn't have time to make it last year, but he promises to do it again this year. Mika is upset that Hiroshi has been away for so long, but she assures him that everything will be fine when he gets home. She also tells him that she's glad that he found a "nice girl friend" like Hiroshi. She's not Hiroshi's girl friend, she says, and she doesn't want to be like that. She tells him to knock on the door and ask him what he wants. He tells her that he was surprised that she was so different from him, and that he never really thanked her for being so beautiful. He asks her to let him have her.
