About This Chapter
"The hidden truth be," the narrator tells us, "is that christ mas eve is almost here. Well, hey, if there were snow, wed've to shovel it. We'll need to bake a cake for the party. The narrator is all, "Gee, we're supposed to do this every year, but this year it's not going to be a party at all. It'll be a Christmas party for all the ugly and beautiful alike." The narrator then asks us what's going on, and we find out that he's talking to his mother's daughter, who's been flirting with a guy named Yoji. Yoji isn't really Yoji's girlfriend, but he and the narrator have known each other for a long time, and they've gotten along pretty well. When Yoji asks about his mother, the narrator says that she's a "free spirited and spontaneous" person, and that she can be "a little careless" at times. He's also a bit of a "strong and more stubborn" person than you'd think. He asks if he can go to the store to buy some Christmas presents, and Yoji says that they're cheaper at the store than at the department store. The only thing Yoji can't figure out is why Yoji invited the girl to the party in the first place, and why he dressed like he did.
