About This Chapter
It's summer vacation, which means it's time for the kids to go back to school for the fall term. The narrator tells the kids that they have to take a test the next day to get their summer vacation. He tells them that if they fail the test, they'll be forced to take extra classes during the summer. He also tells them to remember to memorize the entire text book for the test. He says that teaching is hard, and that's why he can't pass the test if he doesn't even know how to read. The kids agree that they need to get the test over with, but the narrator says that she'd be happier if they all went to the beach instead of going to school. She says that both of her parents hate her, and she blames it on her. She tells them she's been so hard on them that they don't think it would be a good idea for them to go without her. They've accepted her, she says, and they're not going to let her go. She's not allowed to go, so they have no choice but to accept her.
