The chapter opens with a flashback to the night before, when Nitta and Isamu were waiting for the Milady to arrive. The Milady was waiting for her sister, who was supposed to arrive at the same time. Nitta, however, was not at home that night. She had gone to the theater to see a play. The play was about a girl who was raped by a man, and Nitta was the one who raped her. The narrator tells us that Nitta's story is similar to that of Milady's. She was raped, and she was forced to marry the man she had raped. Milady had to give birth to a baby girl, and the baby girl had to be sacrificed to the man who had raped her
